We have already written several times about infographics and even conducted a webinar about it. But about the video infographics full articles have not yet been. It's time to fix it.
Video infographics are infographics in motion and with sound. It gives more space for creativity, because visual images can be supplemented with beautiful music and speech of the speaker.
It can be more convincing and viral, but it costs more, because not only the designer and the copywriter will be required, but also the editor and the announcer.

Why business video infographics
Video infos are needed for the same thing that any other content is needed:
- Increase loyalty. Creating interesting content, you settle down people to yourself and they start to trust you more.
- Report information. The format allows you to fascinate to talk about the conditions of the action or event.
- Creating the credibility of the company or specialist. With the help of video infographics, you can share chips to show professionalism.
- Closing objections. If you make a video about how the cooperation takes place, which specialists work and where the materials for the work come from, you can close several objections.
This list of possibilities is not limited.
Of course, this format is not suitable for everything - it is better to make short clips with compressed information. This implies the main drawback - it is impossible to fully disclose the topic. Although you can try. And if you manage to keep the viewer's attention, it will be a success.
The advantages are that it is exciting to submit graphs and numbers, and this is rarely the case with other formats. All due to the fact that visual information is perceived to be 80% better than textual.
The advantages of video infographics
Besides the fact that you can use sound and animation, there are other advantages.
Easier to use characters
It helps to show emotions or highlight the target audience. For example, you can create a video in which a businessman will solve legal issues, or show a young man trying to fix the router on his own.
By transmitting information from the mouth of the character or describing his actions, you can achieve a better result. Characters can be used in commercials for any business. So you can show the process of cooperation with the company for glazing of balconies - the character will be in contact with other characters - representatives of the company:
- the supplier;
- glazier and others.
The process will become clearer and clearer, and there will be more trust in such a company.
More profitable than other video formats
Video infographic cheaper live shooting and animated videos. To create it, you do not need to buy a camera, lighting, chroma key and other equipment. Enough good microphone, visual editor and software for editing.
And even the most complex animation in video infographics is often simpler than that found in animated videos.
Easy to move and has viral potential.
If information is interestingly presented in the video, the video will be shared more often, and it will collect more views. The main thing - to entertain and bring something valuable.
Easier for perception
To understand the essence of video infographics, no effort is needed - the information itself reaches the right receptors. To understand the usual infographics, you need to go over and read a couple of lines.
In the video, the illustrations themselves get in the right place, and a couple of lines are read by the speaker.
How to create video infographics
We decided to supplement this part of the article with Alice Lobanova from the video production department. Here is what she says about the stages of work on the roller.
All work on the roller takes place in several successive stages:
- Receiving from the account manager a client-approved script, selected voice, video reference and so on.
- Creation and approval by the client of the storyboard.
- Voiceover speaker and approval of the recitation (if necessary).
- Animation and mixing roller.
First of all, you need to coordinate everything with the client in order to know which direction to go.
The first information we receive from the account manager and which we request before starting work:
- video reference (references differ in quality and style, depending on whether a client is a one-time promotion; we have our own folder with past works for promotion, and for one-time work, what they want);
- selected voice announcer;
- a script approved by both the client and the video production department.
If any of this is not - the work does not begin.
When information from the client is received, you can start working on the video.
Scenario and storyboard
If you write the script on your own, then first you need to collect and group the maximum available information, interview experts, see foreign materials on the topic, and so on. When everything is studied, you can start creating a script.
I start with the speaker's speech - I describe the topic as precisely and as simple as possible, and then I simplify once more. When the speech is ready, you can start storyboarding. It is necessary to break the speaker's speech into parts (screens or scenes), and then describe the visual part.
It looks like this:
As you can see, I painted the images in MS Paint. This is enough for the designers to understand what I want to show. Especially in the storyboard there are explanations. But usually a person who can prepare high-quality illustrations is immediately involved in its creation. And he uses not the simplest image editors, but Adobe Illustrator or another professional tool.
Images may be accompanied by text, but it should be less than in the speaker’s speech. The announcer does not have to repeat everything that is written. It will be enough if he just says important numbers or explains the meaning of the images.
If the script is already ready and approved, you just need to add illustrations and text on the screen.
Working with sound
Now it's time to start another important stage - working with sound. Without quality sound, the video will be less attractive. This applies to many sound effects:
- Speaker speech;
- sounds of the environment (construction in the background, noise in traffic, the roar of the crowd);
- sound effects (click of the mouse, signing of the contract, start of the engine).
All of these elements are carefully designed to complement the video.
The announcer is chosen by the client. While working, he is not so necessary to see the video sequence, as with dubbing films. Therefore, the voice acting is parallel to the animation.
Another question is when video infographics looks more like an animated cartoon in which the characters have a dialogue. Then yes, then you can already give and video. But even here - not necessarily. Our speakers are professionals in their field, their main instrument is their voice, and therefore they know how to use it in the right direction.
Music is taken from the internet. We always use without the AP (copyright), you never know what. If you need a ransom - redeem. Usually we take from our various constantly replenishing storages with music, or sites, where the whole thing is also replenished.
We try not to repeat and look for new approaches from this side. For sound processing use Sony Sound Forge.
Preparation of illustrations and animation
As mentioned above, this stage can be held in parallel with the previous one. All elements of the video infographic are drawn:
- other objects;
- graphics and so on.
All these elements must be in the same style so that the video looks like a single whole. Designers will draw all the necessary elements. If the unique illustrations do not have enough budget or time, you can use free or paid vector graphics packages.
The style is chosen by the client. It happens that the client chooses based on the goals and objectives. It happens that it focuses strictly on a competitor and even copies its style, or, on the contrary, wants to do something quite the opposite. Most often I came across the fact that the chosen style is based on taste or predilection. Just because I like this particular style.
When the illustrations are ready, they are animated in Adobe After Effects. Movement in the video plays a major role. Despite the fact that the usual infographics can be viewed in a couple of seconds, the videos with a duration of 1-2 minutes also seem very short. The thing is that the frame is constantly moving:
- items change position or size;
- An animation occurs (revolving update icon, hand movement, facial expressions);
- frames change and so on.
Continuous movement creates dynamics, so the viewer not only does not sense time, but also concentrates attention.
It works only if the information itself is interesting or filed is interesting.
Information and Editing
When all the individual parts are ready, you can begin to make one of them. To do this, use programs such as Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier, in which the animation is reduced with sound.
The finished video is shown to the client so that he approves it or sends a list of edits.
The time of creating video infographics depends on many factors: the style of the video, the timing, the complexity of the animation of characters or any elements, the voice acting - of everything.
On average, 1 minute of a standard video is made from 8 to 11 working days. This is without taking into account the days for approval and making adjustments. Since it is not clear which edits the client will send - a complete re-creation of the scene or a change in the color of the eyes of the character.
After the client has received the storyboard, he has the right to make 1 list of edits. It is also the case with the final video, also 1 list of edits. All subsequent lists are paid.
Because all edits take a lot of time. Also, the client may have several decision makers (the decision maker) - the restriction motivates the client to coordinate the edits at once with all decision makers, so there is no need to change the same part several times.
Edits are made according to one criterion: if the amendment entails some additional unapproved material taken from nowhere, it is most likely that it will be paid, since all the previous steps were approved.
Yes, I understand that sometimes ideas come later. But, alas, no matter how rude it all sounded, the process of work in stages with the agreement was created for a reason.
Creating a regular infographic
For comparison, for a regular infographic, it is enough to make a prototype, according to which the designer will draw it later. I draw a prototype in MS Paint or MS Word - in any program where there are simplest possibilities for drawing.
Although all this can be done without the help of experts. Instead, you can use special programs or services that Pavel Molyanov described in his article.
Chips for creating video infographics
We have already said that you need a constant movement, and to enhance the result, you can use characters. But there are other interesting features that you can use. As directly during the creation of the video, and in the approach.
Avoid head-on advertising
Video infographics sells better if you do not try to sell anything directly. It is much better to close any objections. For example, to explain the meaning of a complex service or the process of its provision.
However, this does not mean that the offer of services does not work at all.
Use logic and emotions
In speech and in illustrations, it is better to show more facts, arguments, and logical arguments. Emotional color can be set with the help of music, voice tones, colors and facial expressions of characters.
Even if you have simplified the movie several times, do it again:
- get rid of the opening words;
- do not use complex structures;
- place a minimum of objects in the frame;
- Let fewer words be on the screen and more - in the speaker's speech.
You need as simple as possible to convey a complex idea.
This item is derived from the past, because a simple movie is cheaper in production. For example, a large number of animation is unlikely to increase sales. Most likely, it will either not change anything, or will distract from the main idea.
Examples of video infographics
There are many good examples that we will consider to consolidate knowledge.
Virtual bulletin board
Simple movie, but using complex animation
The viewer is first explained how he can manage his things, and then a tool is offered for the task. Objects and animations are used to the place.
Decoration and repair of premises
A short video about how the company works
The use of characters in this video humanizes the company, so people unknowingly trust her more. In addition, it shows the process of work, so trust increases even more.
Advantages and ease of cooperation
The video shows the process of cooperation and describes the benefits of working with the company. It is rather short, but this is enough to convince the viewer to order services using facts.
See more similar examples in our portfolio.
This format can be used not only for commercial, but also for entertainment purposes. So the authors of the channel “What if?” Create videos with interesting facts on various topics: electricity, money, animals, and so on. At the same time, they tell how people’s lives would change in different situations. For example, as in the video above.
Three minute historical video
Historical and educational videos in this format are also popular. On the British YouTube channel, Simple History, there are a lot of interesting videos with an interesting presentation.
The information itself is very compressed, so after watching such a video, it is difficult to become an expert in something. If the viewer will have enough of this for general development, he will be satisfied. If he has a goal to study the topic in detail, he will look for answers in other sources. This applies to all infographics.
The animation in the video is relatively complex, but in some places you could do without it. Because it stands out from the general style of the video. For example, guns while shooting look ridiculous.
Video about the Great Wall of China
A good example of a mixed-style educational video. Some of the illustrations are made in vector graphics, and some are styled as Chinese drawings. The text is used in rare cases: dates and numbers.
The main advantage of video infographics is its simplicity and dynamism. Even long rollers can tighten if they are made with high quality. In short, then:
- You can not submit information to the forehead.
- You can not try to cover all the information on the topic.
- You can not make too complex videos.
If you follow these 3 rules, you can achieve good results.
